Leave santjin! (dear seventeen) is a statement that is used in Frisian when we are surprised about something. That was also our first reaction after reading the article “Speaking Frisian is taboo in ‘Farmer Seeks Woman’” in the Leeuwarder Courant of October 31.
Because dear seventeen! – surely it cannot be that our second national language is simply pushed aside? Certainly not because this program is all about feeling and the motherlanguage lets the heart speak?
